Sorry this posts comes so late in the day, lately I've been literally drowning in a backlog, but no complains! I love what I do, however, please bear with my delays. Here's taking a breather from European fashion and recharging your senses with glitz, glam and loads of embroidery and bling from the subcontinent. It may not be avante-garde or even cutting edge, but it's still beautiful in it's own right. Pakistani fashion is similar to Indian fashion and yet different in some ways. One silhouette that stands out in particular is the long
kurta kameez or jacket with flare pants or culottes, in general it would suit a lot of Pakistani women with their height and stature. It's tricky for many
desi girls to carry, but I won't be surprised if that style crosses over soon, like there are many takers for
gararas, which I must say, is the not the most flattering style
. All in all, the collections are a mixed bag, some designs are great and some leave a lot to be desired. I think with more exposure, much like Indian fashion, Pakistani fashion needs time to develop till it comes of age, with reference to originality and innovation, strict quality standards and superior finishing. In the last year, I found that the Indian fashion had blossomed, the new talent that has emerged of late are the ones to watch out for, especially since they are really giving the old guards a run for their money. The point is not to compare Pakistani to Indian fashion, but what I merely want to pinpoint is, it took time! Like nearly two decades for Indian fashion to slowly mature, and in that same respect I think it will take time for the Pakistani fashion industry and designers to consolidate their resources; infrastructure and creativity to come out with clothes that will emerge as truly mind blowing and spectacular. And in the mêlée of global fashion it will be nice to see more and more people from around the world wear clothes from the subcontinent, just as we here don our 'Western outfits'.
The best Pakistani fashions, like Indian fashion, cannot be traced online, but can be found in exclusive high fashion stores in Dubai, Kuwait or even Delhi. I can't even describe how pretty those outfits are, a gorgeous Pakistani
shalwar kameez can sure take your breadth away!
