Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2011 - Myoho by Kiran and Meghna

The inspiration for designers Kiran Jaisinghani and Meghna Agarwal's label Myoho, (that's Buddhist signifying mystic forces of nature) was Zellige, or terra cotta tilework that's akin to Moroccon architecture. For their collection titled Cryptic Ink, Kiran and Meghna played with simple patterns, creating unique styles and turning out interesting shapes while letting the textiles do all the talking. Crepes, handlooms and cotton muls in classic prints amalgamated in breezy shades. Riding on the wave of layering pieces on body suits and turtle necks that was the norm for many designers who showed their fall collections recently, their silhouettes ranged from asymmetric, long and short tunic tops and belted tunic dresses to bubble hem dresses and angarkha style jackets besides kurtas, a skirt and saree. It's nice to see designers celebrate the beauty and that timeless quality of simple Indian textiles, however, if there's one drawback, it's that their clothes and styling remind you a lot of Sabyasachi. Maybe it's the rustic colours, handlooms, makeup and hair that celebrate the classic Indian woman, the designers need to establish some authenticity and carve out their identity accordingly.
